There’s no haircut quite as versatile or as crowd-pleasing as a long bob. Not to be confused with a classic bob haircut that’s typically cut to stop at or above your jawline, a long bob—colloquially known as the lob—“typically hits around the collarbone or just above the shoulders,” says hairstylist Emma McJury. Long bobs are classic because they’re adaptable and can be styled in a variety of ways, depending on your hair texture, density, and overall preferences.
“Think of it as the slightly more low-commitment cousin of the bob,” says McJury. “Still fresh and clean, but with a bit more length to play with. It’s one of the most universally flattering haircuts out there because it doesn’t shorten the face the way a chin-length bob might.”
Christine Bellemare, hairstylist and co-owner of Maven A Collect, agrees. “A lob works well with all face shapes,” she says. “The length can be customized to flatter your features, whether you want to soften a strong jawline, elongate a round face, or add balance to longer face shapes.”
If you’re in need of some hair inspiration (or the courage to play with your length a bit), read ahead to see a handful of examples of long bob haircuts and advice on how to style them.

At the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, Only Murders in the Building star Selena Gomez captured the glamorous Old Hollywood look, wearing her long bob with loose curls and a side part. “Selena Gomez’s lob is a forever favorite,” McJury says. “It’s soft, polished, and always looks effortlessly put together.”

Per McJury, the best thing about a lob is that it adapts really well to different hair textures. Blink Twice star Naomi Ackie, for example, wears a lob styled in layered, tousled waves, which is a good way to add volume if your hair isn’t super dense. You can achieve this same style at home with a curling iron or texturizing spray to hold the curls in place.

Natural curls like Issa Rae’s can be enhanced with tools like flexi rods and mousse to ensure the curls maintain their shape.

A slightly wet look, like Kiera Knightley’s, adds just a bit of edge to any long bob. The key is to use a curling iron to create soft waves, and then finish it off with a hairspray that has a super strong hold.

Zendaya has styled her lob in many ways over the years, but nothing beats these’ 90s-style flipped ends. Her take on the style is slicked back, save for one purposely out-of-place strand.

Straight and Glassy

One of the best ways to style a lob is to give it a simple sleek and glassy look, as seen here on Vanessa Hudgens. To recreate it, McJury says you can pass a heated brush through your strands a few times, since it’ll give your hair a glossy, frizz-free finish. And, as always, don’t forget your heat protectant.

Daisy Ridley opted for a middle part here, and instead of leaving her lob blunt and straight, she added a little umph by just barely curling the ends under.

Kim Kardashian pulls off a retro look with more pronounced flipped ends and a perfectly styled kiss curl that hangs just above her brows. Achieving this is as simple as grabbing a flat iron to slightly bend the ends of your hair upward before spritzing with a strong-hold hairspray to ensure the curls keep their shape.

Bangs can be pretty divisive, but they pair well with long bobs, especially when they’re not cut too bluntly. Taraji P. Henson’s angled cut is styled with choppy bangs, and her ends have varying lengths while still framing her face perfectly.

Long Angled Bob

An angled lob gives you the best of both worlds, with hair that’s shorter at the nape of the neck and longer strands that rest on the collarbone. Naomi Watts’ angled look is as simplistic and timeless as it gets with her strands falling straight against her face and bending slightly under her chin at the ends.

Your lob doesn’t always have to be cut in layers to look good, as evidenced by model Alessandra Ambrossio. Here, she wears a middle part paired with blunt ends that fall just beneath her shoulders. For a smooth style like this, it’d probably be best to have hair oil or a frizz-tamer on hand.

Keke Palmer has experimented with a lot of styles, but we absolutely love a lob on her—especially when it features a fiery red color that perfectly complements her skin tone. She styled the cut with a deep side part and classic curls.

The resurgence of the flip continues with Mandy Moore’s two-toned style, complete with a subtle curl at her ends.

A “bixie” is a long pixie bob haircut—essentially, it’s not exactly short enough to be a pixie, but long enough to fall into the bob category. Taylor Hill’s long pixie bob is elegant, with a side-sweeping bang and a deep side part that both add more glamour to the look.

Jenna Ortega let her once chin-length tresses grow out into a ‘70s-inspired shaggy bob with bangs. Ortega has a thicker hair texture, which according to McJury, can benefit from being cut into layers to eliminate excess weight and keep the hair from appearing too bulky.

Victoria Beckham’s newly cut lob has an airy, soft blowout look, which McJury says you can replicate using a thermal brush to create waves. Follow this by adding a smoothing serum or cream to your ends to keep them from flipping under.

Hacks star Hannah Einbinder’s look is cut bluntly just above her shoulders, with small bends all throughout her tresses. The face-framing highlights really help to pull the look together.
